Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president, and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she was the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected as the district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated health reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
